To get ahead in marketing, you need to stay ahead of the curve, and that means embracing and learning about the latest digital innovations. One huge digital innovation is Artificial Intelligence.

Used correctly, it can be a powerhouse of skill and a support for businesses of any size and scope.

Now, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a tool that only IT whizz kids use; instead, it’s something that you can incorporate into your everyday business life. AI can help boost  efficiency, creativity, and results.

Why does AI even matter?

AI-powered marketing tools are transforming how companies reach customers, create content, and make decisions. And while ‘artificial intelligence’ might sound daunting, the reality is that AI tools are now more accessible, affordable, and user-friendly than ever before. Whether you’re running a big business or you run a small one from your home, harnessing AI doesn’t require a team of data scientists. You just need to be willing to try it out.

1. Unlocking personalisation

One of AI’s greatest marketing strengths is its ability to personalise communication with customers. Instead of sending the same message to everyone, AI tools can analyse your customer data, such as browsing habits, email engagement, and purchase history, and deliver bespoke content and offers.

If you use an email marketing tool like MailChimp, you can segment your audience by habits and purchase history with tags and then send customised content straight to them. You can ask your AI to suggest subject lines that will resonate and encourage opens. The result? Better engagement and, ultimately, more sales.

2. Supercharge your content creation

Are you struggling to create enough content for your social media, website, and newsletters? AI can help generate high-quality ideas, even draft whole blog posts, social updates, and video scripts, saving you or your team hours each week.

You can experiment with AI writing assistants like ChatGPT (for copywriting) or Canva’s Magic Write (for posts and headlines). These tools can help generate ideas and polish your drafts. But do remember, it’s important to inject your brand voice and personality for added authenticity. If you just copy and paste, it will scream AI-generated and could put your customers off.

3. Streamlining social media and analytics

Managing multiple social accounts can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re tracking performance metrics. AI-powered schedulers (such as Buffer or Hootsuite) suggest optimal posting times, curate trending topics, and even recommend hashtags to boost visibility. Meanwhile, analytics platforms like Google Analytics now offer AI-based insights, flagging unexpected surges or drops in web traffic and suggesting actions.

So, instead of spending hours compiling reports, use the platforms’ built-in AI suggestions to spot what’s working and what isn’t so that you can adjust your strategy quickly.

4. Enhance your customer experience with AI Chatbots

AI-driven chatbots don’t just answer common queries; they can nurture leads, book appointments, and resolve issues instantly, day or night. Having a virtual carer for your website means your customers feel looked after even outside regular working hours.

Tools like Intercom or Drift integrate easily with websites and offer cost-effective packages, perfect for smaller businesses wanting to deliver responsive customer service.

5. Get smart with ad targeting and budgeting

AI can also help you get smarter with online advertising. Digital ad platforms (like Google Ads or Facebook Ads) use AI to target your ideal customers based on behaviour, location, and even interests, making campaigns more efficient and less wasteful.

Use their automated ad campaign tools that adjust spending and targeting in real-time, so your ads reach the right people at the right time.

While these tools are powerful, remember: AI works best when combined with human creativity and empathy. Your customers appreciate the personal touch, and your business is built on its reputation, so don’t use AI as a replacement. Instead, it should be used as a tool to support, but never replace, your voice and authenticity.

Has this article got you thinking about using AI in your business? If it has, great! But start small.

Try one AI tool that addresses your biggest marketing challenge, such as content creation or email campaigns, and then build on that. There are free trials and resources you can tap into, and many providers offer customer support to help you get set up.

So, to round up, adopting AI tools isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about working smarter, not harder. By leveraging AI to personalise, automate, and analyse your marketing activities, you can stay ahead of your competitors and set new standards in customer experience.

AI allows you to free up precious time to focus on what matters most: building your business for future success.
