A group of 32 charities across Jersey have come together to outline a series of priorities for candidates standing in this year’s election, calling for stronger action to improve equality, equity and inclusion across the Island.
The coalition, representing health, care and community organisations, has developed seven key ‘asks’ and shared them with election candidates, inviting them to confirm their support. The proposals focus on ensuring that the needs of minority and marginalised groups are better reflected in policy, services and decision making.
The seven asks, set out in the Election Asks 2026 document, include commitments to consult with affected communities before introducing legislation, strengthen equal rights and protections, and improve access to fair and inclusive education.
They also call for better support within healthcare, increased training to help public sector staff understand barriers faced by marginalised groups, and a broader commitment to social responsibility across government, business and the community. Accessibility, both physical and financial, is also highlighted as a key priority.
Sean Pontin, CEO of Disability Charity, Enable Jersey said: “As a group of local charities we are working hard to improve equality, equity and inclusion for everyone living in Jersey. As organisations we have different focuses and priorities, but we share a commitment to support a diverse range of people in all parts of our community and especially those from minority and marginalised groups. This includes but is not limited to: disabled and neurodivergent people, their family, friends and carers; those experiencing poverty, our LGBTQ+ community, migrant workforce and people from the global majority.
“As a group of 32 like minded charities we are asking candidates in June’s election, to confirm their agreement to our ‘key asks’ and support our work for the benefit of the Island and to embed inclusion into the everyday.
“In doing so we hope that we can help turn good intent into action, that candidates will make a commitment to being a champion, a true ally and to hold their colleagues and leaders to account, not just some of the time but all of the time.”
