Jersey’s Giles Robson capped off a month’s worth of international touring with a performance on the private Caribbean island of Mustique last week, with Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger in attendance.
Giles was there as part of the Mustique Blues Festival at the invitation of Grammy winning blues legend Joe Louis Walker where he, alongside a host of other blues luminaries, performed 14 shows for The Basil Charles Foundation, a charity that provides scholarships and other educational benefits for the children of Mustique and close by islands of St Vincent and The Grenadines.
Giles was introduced to Mick Jagger by Joe Louis Walker and Basil Charles and enthused about the show telling him: “I’ve been listening to what you do and you sound great!”
Another famous face at the shows was legendary actress Jane Seymour.
Before heading to the Caribbean, Giles toured with the Chicago blues Legend John Primer. John was a one time Muddy Waters and Magic Slim guitarist and as a blues star in his own right, was this year nominated for his third Grammy Award. They played sold out shows in Scotland, England, Belgium and a four night run in Athens Greece at the famous Half note Jazz Club.
The band consisted of France’s top rhythm section Pascal Delmas on drums and Antoine Escalier on bass. Celebrating the great musical partnership with Giles, John Primer stated: “When me and GIles play the blues we put hot sauce on it so you can feel it. I just love to hear him play.”
