The new Millbrook House Hotel site owners plan to invest over £14m to give a new lease of life to the hotel by creating a bespoke Art Hotel.
The Hotel will offer a unique experience for visitors and guests to immerse themselves in arts, cultural and cooking courses, along with fine dining and a spa. All facilities will be available to islanders as well as guests from further afield.
The hotel is seen as a boost for the tourism sector, at a time when other hotels and tourism accommodation are being lost. The new owners, CCA (see below), say that the operation of the Hotel would provide 40 plus local jobs and create spending in the local economy, thereby supporting other local businesses.
The existing hotel has been closed for over three years. The main villa and gatehouse, both listed, are in urgent need of repair and existing facilities require modernisation.
Subject to planning permission, the hotel plans to open in 2023.
The key features of the proposed development are:
- 39 hotel bedrooms, 7 self-catering units and 6 eco-pods
- Spa and Wellness Centre
- Hothouse cookery school with associated restaurant
- Staff accommodation
- Restoration of heritage gardens
- New internal route allowing exit onto Le Chemins des Moulins
- The hotel facilities, room design and operational standards have imbedded the requirements necessary to achieve a 5 star AA quality standard rating
Millbrook House Hotel has operated as a Hotel for many years and has recently been purchased by CCA Galleries International Ltd (CCA).
CCA is a commercial gallery at Royal Court Chambers, 10 Hill Street. The exhibition space showcases the best of contemporary British and Jersey art. The gallery is now in its 7th year and was opened by Sir Peter Blake CBE in June, 2013.
A scheme has been prepared on behalf of CCA to restore the Millbrook House Hotel site’s buildings and to create an Art Hotel. All buildings would be refurbished and new ancillary accommodation created.
All designs include landscape protection, enhancement and a comprehensive landscaping scheme. In response to early advice received from the States of Jersey, Highways Department, a new internal road is also included providing a new exit onto Le Chemins des Moulins.
