The Assistant Minister for the Environment, Senator Sir Mark Boleat, has granted planning permission for the development of 30 affordable homes on a site at the edge of St Martin’s Village, following consideration of a planning appeal.
The site at Field MN410, La Rue des Buttes, was rezoned for affordable housing in the Bridging Island Plan.
An application for the development was originally refused by the former Planning Committee in March 2025.
The applicant subsequently appealed the decision, and the case was reviewed by independent planning inspector Nigel McGurk, who recommended that planning permission be granted.
In his report, the inspector concluded that the principal issue in the appeal was the impact of the proposed development on highway safety. Having considered the available evidence, he found that improvements to visibility at the site entrance would provide safe access to the development.
The inspector also concluded that the scheme would deliver wider highway and access improvements that would benefit all road users.
Having considered the inspector’s findings and recommendation, Senator Sir Mark Boleat agreed with the assessment and granted planning permission, subject to planning conditions and the completion of a planning obligation agreement.
