24 students in Year 5 and 6 from The Ladies’ College, Melrose have travelled to The O2 to perform with 8000 other school children as part of the Young Voices project.

The school children combined to form one large choir and sang a range of songs from spirituals, classic jazz, musicals and modern pop genres. They performed with guest artists including Lydia White who is currently playing Miss Honey in Matilda the Musical showing in the West End. Other artists included the rapper MC Grammar and drummer Nandi Bushell.

Melrose Young Voices coordinator, Tom Lewis said: “Months of hard work learning songs and dance moves all culminated in an incredible evening of music making. The sound of 8000 children all collaborating to sing together as a community is an incredible experience and the girls have taken away magical memories of performing at this prestigious venue.

“At The Ladies’ College, we wholeheartedly believe that these types of experiences are invaluable for our students. It helps them to understand that putting hard work into preparing for something results in something meaningful. Experiences like this help them to cultivate a sense of agency and prepare for life in an increasingly interconnected world.”

“Thank you to David Lawrence, Andy Instone and to all at Young Voices for an unforgettable event,” said Mary Lawson, Headteacher of Melrose.
