LibertyBus and Government of Jersey have put pen to paper and signed the new contract to continue running the Island’s bus service for at least the next 10 years.
The contract starts on 6th April 2025 and runs for 10 years with a possible three, one year extensions.
LibertyBus, the current operator of bus services in Jersey, was selected for offering best value for money and a range of service improvements that align with the Island’s environmental goals.
Here are some key highlights of the new contract:
- Modern, Eco-Friendly Buses: In the first 12 months, LibertyBus will introduce 22 ultra-low emission, high-capacity buses, replacing older vehicles. The remaining fleet will undergo refurbishment to ensure comfort and reliability for all passengers.
- A Greener Future: LibertyBus has pledged to renew its entire fleet in line with Jersey’s carbon-neutral ambitions, marking a significant step towards a more
sustainable future. - Enhanced Services for the Community: Islanders will benefit from more bus routes and increased service frequencies, exceeding the tender requirements
and ensuring better connectivity across the island.
Constable Andy Jehan and Tower Transit UK MD Samuel Ribeiro signed the contract making it official.
Samuel Ribeiro, Managing Director of Tower Transit (parent company of LibertyBus), commented: “We are delighted to have renewed the partnership with the Government of Jersey to continue to provide exceptional bus services for the next 10 years. This agreement will see continued investment in fleet replacement, including zero-emission vehicles. Our aim is to build on the network of services and support the GoJ’s plans to deliver increased modal shift over the next decade.”
Constable Andy Jehan, Minister for Infrastructure, commented: “This contract represents a vital investment in Jersey’s public transport network. LibertyBus’s commitment to improving route and frequency requirements means residents will benefit from more services than ever before.
“I am confident that they will continue to provide a more convenient and efficient experience for Islanders. By introducing ultra-low and zero-emission vehicles, we are not only improving the quality and reliability of our bus services but also contributing to a more sustainable and healthier future for our Island community.
“Together, these improvements will make our bus network more accessible, while supporting our long-term sustainability goals.”
