Jersey Energy Technologies has announced plans to open an office in Alderney by the end of March.
The move builds on Jersey Energy Technologies’ early success in Jersey and supports Alderney’s ambition to turn its renewable resources into lower energy costs, greater resilience and new economic opportunity.
Alderney’s strong tidal, wind and solar potential, combined with the need to reduce reliance on fossil fuels makes Alderney a natural fit for Jersey Energy Technologies’ solutions. The company is already working with Alderney Electricity and other local partners to explore low-carbon heating through its own ‘Just Heat’ system, lightweight solar panels used at the Olympic Stadium, and innovative building-integrated solar technologies.
Innovations such as these can turn a wider range of structures into power generators, increasing Alderney’s energy self-sufficiency and helping to lower energy costs. Future collaborations will be subject to appropriate technical, commercial and governance arrangements.
Iain Macfarlane, Chair of the General Services Committee said: “The arrival of Jersey Energy Technologies on Alderney is a positive and encouraging step as the island looks to advance its economy, create skilled local jobs and plan responsibly for the future. Exploring practical solutions around energy, infrastructure and innovation is essential if Alderney is to strengthen its resilience and long-term sustainability. We welcome initiatives that align with these wider goals and support the island’s ambition to secure a strong, self-reliant future.”
Chair of the Economic Development Committee, Stuart Clark said: “The interest shown by JET following initial discussions with the Economic Development Committee in 2025 has now progressed from concept to reality.
“Alderney must continue to attract new and innovative companies that are willing to work closely with the States and, in this case, our core utility provider, to strengthen the local economy. Developing collaborations like this can help generate new revenue streams, reduce the perceived burden of Alderney within wider States of Guernsey, and move the island further towards financial independence. This collaboration is new, exciting and aligns well with both the Island Plan for energy provision and our broader economic ambitions.”
Simon Humphreys, Co-Founder at JET said: “After proving our model in Jersey, Alderney was the natural next step, Alderney has the resource, the leadership and the local utility partnership to move quickly from intent to impact, cutting costs, strengthening energy security and building a platform that other island communities can learn from.”
Chris MacGregor, Managing Director of Alderney Electricity said: “Alderney Electricity welcomes JET’s interest in Alderney and the wider conversation about how low carbon heating and solar solutions can play a role in the island’s future energy mix. We are open to exploring options that support decarbonisation while protecting network resilience and ensuring outcomes are in the long-term interests of customers.”
