Following an additional generous donation, The Jersey Community Foundation has announced a second round of Social Mobility Funding.
The funding is aimed at supporting initiatives focussed on providing young people in Jersey with the tools, skills and experiences they need to help reach their potential.
Initially launched in February 2025 with seed funding of £50,000, the Social Mobility Fund has to date provided grants of £ 23,346 to 6 projects with the common goal of removing social mobility barriers in Jersey, either to specific individuals or as part of community initiatives.
Current projects benefiting from the JCF Social Mobility Fund include:
- The Jersey Basketball Association (pictured): The JBBA Secondary Schools Programme is a new initiative designed to remove financial and logistical barriers to basketball participation for students in Jersey’s Government Secondary Schools.
- ArtHouse Jersey: ArtHouse Jersey’s Summer Outreach Programme created meaningful opportunities for 35 children in Jersey to enjoy enriching outdoor artistic experiences that might otherwise have been out of reach.
- Samares School: Funding to develop and launch a bespoke drama programme specifically for pupils with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties to support their understanding of regulation and emotions.
The new round of funding, which closes on 31st October has been made possible thanks to the support of a generous donor and means that grants ranging from £500 to £10,000 will be available to registered Jersey charities and local primary and secondary schools.
The types of projects eligible for funding include after-school or holiday programmes that look to support enrichment opportunities, creative arts initiatives that boost confidence, mentoring schemes, skills training, or supported work placements in hard-to-access sectors. Support for young carers, tackling digital exclusion, and raising aspirations around further education and employment are also among the priorities.
Anna Terry, CEO of the Jersey Community Foundation, said: “The Social Mobility Fund is about creating a level playing field for everyone in Jersey. We know that opportunity should not depend on the family you are born into, the school you attend, or the area you live in, but unfortunately this is too often the case. Issues such as the cost-of-living pressures being felt by families, selective school systems and the changing job market can really affect a person’s chances to reach their full potential, through no fault of their own.
“By supporting targeted projects specifically aimed at increasing a person’s potential, we can help ensure more young Islanders have the tools, skills, and confidence to succeed, while also creating a more inclusive and prosperous Island.”
