The Channel Islands Coop donated Easter eggs and treats worth £1,600 to organisations and charities that recognise and support families and the elderly.

Around 20 organisations received the Coop’s support including the organisers of Les Cotils Food for Families Easter Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday. More than 120 children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt, barbecue and bouncy castles. The Coop donated Easter eggs – ensuring that every child went home with a treat and a smile. Les Cotils partners with local charities to identify families most in need of support  through the Food for Families initiative by providing free events and opportunities.

Les Cotils MD Fiona Naftel commented: “Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the backing of organisations like the Coop. The feedback we receive from charities is always so positive — families consistently tell us how much they enjoy these events. The more we can do throughout the year, the more meaningful and joyful memories we can create for members of our community.”

Head of Community and Sustainability for Coop, Carl Winn said: “Easter is a time of togetherness and generosity, and by working with local community groups and charities we were able to donate Easter eggs and treats to ensure no one was left out of the joy. Supporting our community is at the heart of everything we do, and the help we were able to give over the Easter holidays further reflects our commitment to our sustainability strategy, with a focus on supporting people and communities”

In Jersey the domestic abuse charity Freeda held an Easter egg hunt with treats supplied by the Coop for clients and their families in their safe house and in the community.

Freeda’s Judy Griffin said: “As the islands only independent charity supporting women and children who are victims of domestic abuse, we rely on kind donations and support to continue providing our services. Every penny counts towards this and by donating Easter eggs the Coop enable us to spread Easter joy and fun in our house, without an expense to Freeda. We are extremely grateful for the Co-ops ongoing support to Freeda and the families that we support.”
