With only three months until the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon 2024 takes place, a number of the more ‘unique’ participants are putting the final touches to their preparations ahead of race day.
The Jersey Marathon always features a number of runners who quite literally go the extra mile, either setting themselves ambitious targets, fabulous outfits, unusual goals or impressive fundraising objectives, and this year is no different.
Amongst those of note already registered to take part in this year’s race on Sunday 6th October 2024, are:
- Irish runner Stephen Toal, who is aiming to complete marathons in 50 countries and all seven continents
- 44-year-old Belgian Hans De Meulder, who is running ‘the alphabet of marathons’ – with Jersey ticking the ‘J’, and
- Jersey-based couple Josie and Tom Ewing, who are new parents and are running in the two-person relay – their first marathon together
In addition, there will be a number of eye-catching costumes being worn by runners this year, including Jersey runner Karl Fitzpatrick (pictured), who is running for Jersey Hospice once again dressed as giant running shoe.
Looking ahead to this year’s marathon, Henry Baye, CEO of Standard Chartered Jersey, said: “What continues to really excite me about the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is that it brings together people from all over the world and from so many different backgrounds, all of whom have their own passions and unique reasons for running – whether it’s to support important charity work or to succeed in a personal challenge. Obviously, the unique stories that continue to beautify this Marathon take inspiration to another level. I am looking forward to being more inspired this year.
“With three months to go now, the build-up has well and truly begun and we are all really looking forward to race day and the incredible community event the Jersey Marathon has become. I’d like to wish all those taking part the best as they fine-tune their preparations ahead of 6th October.”
