Enable Jersey has launched its first community raffle, offering supporters the chance to win a range of prizes, including a new electric Nissan Micra Advance.
The charity, which supports islanders living with disabilities and long term conditions, hopes the fundraiser will not only support its ongoing work but also help progress plans for a mobile accessible toilet and changing facility known as a Mobiloo.
The raffle has been inspired by Jersey resident Lily McGarry, who lost all four limbs after contracting meningococcal septicaemia in 2025. Since returning home, Lily has been raising awareness of acquired disability and the challenges many people face in accessing community events and activities.
Sean Pontin (pictured), Chief Executive of Enable Jersey, said: “At this time of year a number of fellow charities are launching similar fundraisers but we have tried hard to make ours a little different and of course it has been very specifically driven by the amazing Lily McGarry and her friends and family.”
He added: “It’s been a great pleasure getting to know Lily and her family over the last year or so and, in typical Lily fashion, when we talk about how we can support her she talks about how she can support us and other people.”
Enable’s Fundraising Coordinator, Danielle Self, thanked local supporters for helping secure the raffle prizes, including the top prize vehicle, and said the charity hoped the campaign would help people ‘live a life without limits’.
Speaking about the initiative, Lily said: “Until recently I never understood the frustrations that a lack of accessibility can cause for those with extra needs. Now I’m experiencing it first hand I’ve noticed how much Jersey could improve on. Enable work tirelessly to make this happen.”
She added: “The Mobiloo will help those with a disability gain access to the things they love like festivals and sporting events that able bodied people take for granted.”
