The first meeting, marking the formal commencement of the Bailiwick Commission, took place on 24 March 2026.
The Commissioners have already started preparatory work, to build on their existing knowledge of the relationships between the Bailiwick islands and upon previous work they have undertaken with the islands.
To initiate their work, the Commission has launched a survey to gather the communities’ views on the relationship between the islands of the Bailiwick. This gives individuals and organisations the opportunity to provide their views and ideas for how things could change or be improved and to provide input to the Commission’s work.
The survey can be found here and is open until 15th May 2026.
Sir Bob Neill (pictured), Chair of the Bailiwick Commission, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the Chair of the Bailiwick Commission and to lead the team of Commissioners with this important inquiry. I’d hope we all bring significant expertise in our fields and will be able to provide a different perspective to this work. Although none of us are islanders in the true sense, we each have knowledge and experience of working with the islands previously. We are looking forward to further expanding our understanding and will be drawing on local and expert advisers as we undertake this work.
“The first meeting of the Commission allowed us to start to plan how we will undertake our work, considering the existing relationships between the islands and whether these relationships may need to be adapted to ensure they are fit for future purpose. We are planning visits to the Bailiwick as a matter of priority; to engage directly with the islands’ communities and hear views firsthand, as well as engaging with local organisations, business and governments.
“Ultimately, our recommendations will be included in our interim and final reports for the three Bailiwick Governments. We strongly encourage communities to engage through our website, as well as in person by attending our events, throughout the course of the inquiry.”
