Deloitte Jersey, together with its charity partner Every Child Our Future (ECOF), has donated 50 laptops to students in Jersey.

The laptops were donated to Haute Vallee and Le Rocquier schools on World Numeracy Day, on 18th May 2022, to support Jersey students with building confidence with numeracy skills and all other areas of the curriculum.

World Numeracy Day was founded by the independent charity, National Numeracy. It’s a specific day that focuses on recognising that numbers play a large part in everyone’s lives and encourages people to try and build confidence in their numeracy skills, even if they’re not maths-orientated.

Deloitte Jersey has been partnered with ECOF for more than two years as part of its 5 Million Futures (5MF) social impact strategy. Together they continue to support students in Jersey with essential numeracy skills. Over the past two years, Deloitte has also trained 35 volunteers and spent over 500 hours actively supporting ECOF with weekly numeracy skills sessions for students.

Director in Audit and Assurance at Deloitte, Nic James said: “We are delighted to work with our charity partner, ECOF, to donate 50 laptops to students in Jersey on World Numeracy Day.

“During the pandemic teachers took to online learning, leveraging technology in their work to create new online materials. The past couple of years have made access to technology more important than ever, enabling students to take control of their learning. This newest surge in educational technology cannot create divides between those with easy access to resources and those without such access. We are proud to be able to support a number of local students through our donation.”

CEO of ECOF, Cris Lakeman added: “Deloitte has been incredibly supportive of our own initiatives over the years, and this donation will be crucial for a number of students in Jersey. As ever, we hope this donation is beneficial as we support students with their growth.”

In partnership with the CYPES, ECOF co-ordinates more than 500 individuals and corporate volunteers to help improve learning skills and develop futures, supporting local primary-school children to improve their reading and numeracy skills.
