Highlands Foundation receives second donation from GR8

A charitable foundation that supports students at Highlands College has received a second donation from employment solutions and training specialists GR8.

The business began supporting the charity last year with a donation of £5,000 and has matched that again in 2021. The Highlands Foundation was established in 2019 and was created to assist students on the full range of vocational, commercial and higher education courses.

Lee Madden, Managing Director of GR8, said: “We support the Highlands Foundation because we recognise that enrolling on a course is a significant financial commitment for every student. The Foundation provides the support that some need so that they can get on in life and we wholeheartedly support that vision. Sometimes the decision to get a qualification hinges on whether the student can afford a set of chef’s knives for a culinary course, or a set of spanners to train as a mechanic”.

The funds and contributions from partners including GR8 go towards bursaries for students; funding extra curricular opportunities to enhance learning; purchasing additional equipment to enhance student learning and support future career opportunities; and supporting student led initiatives empowering learning and innovation, including community engagement.

Rob Moy, Deputy Principal of Business Services at Highlands College, said: “We have been working with GR8 since the business began three years ago and we are immensely proud of our association. The Foundation plays a vital role in supporting all college events and provides opportunities for our students to enhance their experience at Highlands College. With our inaugural partner GR8, the College aims to use the Foundation to meet the lifelong learning needs of islanders and enhance their learning opportunities”.
