Walking challenge raises funds for Jersey Stroke Association

Staff from Alex Picot Trust counted their steps throughout October to raise £2475 for the Jersey Stroke Recovery Service.

The 2020 Alex Picot Trust Steps Challenge involved splitting into two teams to go head to head with all 35 staff members wearing fitness trackers to enable them to contribute steps to their team total.

They were joined in the challenge by Tracy O’Regan, Jersey Stroke Association fundraising and operations manager, who contributed almost 400,000 steps to her team.

This is the third time that staff from Alex Picot Trust have put their best foot forward to take on a steps challenge for the Charity and this time the team collectively counted over 10 million steps.

‘The Red Hot Chilli Steppers’ team, lead by director, Sarah McBrearty, achieved a total of 5,121,178 steps.  Meanwhile, the ‘Pimp My Stride’ team, lead by director, Hannah Roynon-Jones, achieved a total of 5,115,756 steps.

Chris Cotillard, director at Alex Picot Trust, said: “Every one of our team made a conscious effort to get out and walk throughout October and this challenge certainly generated some healthy competition among the team; most importantly it encouraged us all to stay active as the days were starting to get shorter.  Each week we celebrated those who had gone the extra mile or made improvements on the previous week as motivation to keep going. We are thrilled to be able to make a donation on behalf of all the team to the Jersey Stroke Association.  This charity does such important work in our community for those affected by stroke and in recent times, we are aware that their services have been hindered.  We hope that the extra boost to their fundraising can help them keep on track during these uncertain times.  Thanks to all our team, and to Tracy O’Regan, for making this a fun and meaningful challenge.”

Tracy O’Regan of Jersey Stroke Association said: “Stroke Association Jersey are once again delighted to be working with Alex Picot Trust taking part in their STEPS challenge.  Exercise is one of the ways to help reduce the risk of stroke and improve our own health and wellbeing, so a great initiative.  The pandemic has affected our fundraising efforts but with the support from Alex Picot Trust we can reach more stroke survivors.  Stroke strikes every 5 minutes and is a medical emergency.  Thanks to everyone at Alex Picot Trust for ‘stepping out’ and supporting Stroke Association Jersey.”
