Four charitable causes which support young people and children in Jersey were awarded over £70,000 of Channel Islands Lottery funding in 2024.
The total funds distributed to a range of charitable causes across the Channel Islands from Lottery ticket sales in 2024 was £2.7m. Profits from ticket sales of the Channel Islands Lottery are distributed to local charities and causes via both the Association of Jersey Charities (AJC) and the Jersey Community Foundation (JCF), who are able to identify those most able to provide grass-roots support where it is needed.
In 2024 The Association of Jersey Charities awarded £16,879 of Channel Islands (CI) Lottery funding to Brightly (pictured) to fund a new part time coordinator. Brightly is a small independent charity that awards grants to children and young people who are being supported by the Children’s Service. Their support creates positive experiences and opportunities to help improve children and young people’s daily lives and support them move towards independence.
Brighter Futures’ mission is for all families in Jersey to live safe, happy and healthy lives, supporting them in times of challenge to realise their full potential. In 2024 the charity was awarded £28,000 of CI Lottery funding from the Association of Jersey Charities to run 6 specific groups and programmes designed to support parent and child relationships, children’s wellbeing and positive mental health as well as personal development and second chance learning.
Jersey Community Foundation awarded £13,100 of CI Lottery Funding to the Ballet D’Jerri’s third annual Ballet in the Park event held in July every year. Presented in collaboration with the Jersey Opera House, Ballet in the Park brings ballet to a new audience as well as existing dance enthusiasts, inviting them to enjoy dance away from a traditional theatre setting. The two-day event, held in Howard Davis Park also encompasses free open dance classes and children’s activities, opening up the arts to family groups.
Every Child Our Future (ECOF) works alongside the Government of Jersey, the Education Department and Jersey Library to deliver literacy and numeracy support to children across in the island in primary-school settings. The charity received £12,500 of CI Lottery Funding from the Jersey Community Foundation as part of a two-year grant to bring English and Portuguese-language performances to 10 schools which have the highest level of socio-economic needs as well as satellite performances in Jersey Library. Created in partnership with Flair Entertainment, these performances, which are also delivered in Makaton sign-language provide children with the opportunity to watch a live theatre performance in their home language and to learn words in English and Portuguese. Research shows that listening to a story in your home language is not only beneficial for your language skills but also your sense of identity and wellbeing.
The CI Lottery works closely with Jersey Community Foundation, the Association of Jersey Charities and the Social Investment Fund in Guernsey to distribute lottery funding to worthy and charitable causes across the Channel Islands.
Jon Taylor, Head of Lottery, said: “Young people and their families are under more pressure than ever for a growing number of reasons, and we are seeing an increased need for charities and local causes to step in to provide essential support. The grants and funds distributed by local organisations, alongside practical and emotional support, can really impact lives in a positive way. Working together through our partners and groups, the money generated from Channel Island Lottery ticket sales can give children and young people a helping hand towards a better future and we’re extremely proud to be continuing our mission to improve the lives of Islanders.”
