The Guernsey Football Association (GFA) is recruiting new members to join the Youth Council, an initiative sponsored by Deloitte Guernsey.

The GFA is looking to recruit new members between the ages of 14-21, who are enthusiastic and passionate about football.  The GFA Youth Council is a group of young people who have a variety of backgrounds in football. They meet monthly to work on a range of projects that will shape the future of football for young people on the island.

The purpose of the Youth Council is to support the vision, mission, objectives and performance of the GFA by providing relevant research and insights into the youth game. This will inform current practice and provide important future recommendations for participation in the local football community.

Applicants are welcome from a wide range of football backgrounds, including referees, players, coaches, administrators and volunteers, with the aim being to have a membership that represents all areas of football in Guernsey.

As part of their ongoing community partnership with the GFA, Deloitte has sponsored the association’s Youth Council since its launch last year.  “The Youth Council is a fantastic initiative from the GFA, and Deloitte is delighted to continue its support of the scheme. Team sports makes has a huge impact on our mental and physical wellbeing, so we would like to encourage more young people to join and benefit from the group” said David Becker, Deloitte Partner.

Joelle Pengelley, Head of the Youth Engagement Action Plan, commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in supporting the future of football for children and young people in Guernsey.  The role of the Youth Council is to provide young people involved within local football with the opportunity to have a voice about how they wish football to be structured and to develop relationships with the local community so that football can be used to create positive sporting opportunities and increase participation for young people.”
