The de Putron Challenge inter-island final returned today with Vauvert Primary School (Guernsey) winning the year six final and St Michael’s Preparatory School (Jersey) taking home the year eight trophy.

The de Putron Challenge aims to showcase the brightest young minds in Guernsey and Jersey. The Challenge brings together year six and year eight pupils to test their general knowledge, maths and creative thinking skills.

This year the live inter-island event was back, with Jersey schools travelling over to Guernsey to compete against its Guernsey counterparts. The final was held at Les Cotils.

Vauvert Primary School won the year six final after beating Plat Douet School by 5 points and scoring 33 overall.

Nathan Sanders, Finn Davidson and Soren Brun, the team from Vauvert Primary School in year six, said: “We didn’t think we’d get this far, it’s amazing! It was great to have the whole year group here cheering us on.”

Later in the day, Elizabeth College and St Michael’s Preparatory School went head-to-head in the year 8 final for the trophy. It was a tough challenge and both teams competed well, but St Michael’s Preparatory School just gained an edge to win overall with 28 points to Elizabeth College’s 17 points.

Isaac Weston, Benjamin Carnegie-Bedlow, Georgina Drummond and Bertie Maclean, the team from St Michael’s Preparatory School in year eight, said: “We feel amazing to have won. We want to thank everyone who came down to support, to the organisers and the Ana Leaf Foundation. It was a great event.”

Hayley de Putron, a Trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation and founder of the de Putron Challenge, said: “Congratulations to Vauvert Primary School and St Michael’s Preparatory School for winning the inter-island final in their respective year groups. The teams did so well and everyone who took part should be very proud of themselves. Thank you to everyone who got involved and contributed to making another fantastic year for the de Putron Challenge.”
