The International Stock Exchange is supporting Guernsey sailor Andrew Bridgman as he seeks to win a world championship on home waters this summer.

The International Stock Exchange (TISE), under the banner of its private markets service, TISE Private Markets, is sponsoring Mr Bridgman for the third year in a row in his quest to win the Foiling Waszp World Championships. Last year, Mr Bridgman finished 22nd out of 140 competitors in Sandefjord, Norway, and the previous year he finished 12th out of a field of more than 90 competitors in Melbourne, Australia.

The Foiling Waszp World Championships have taken place annually since 2017 and this year for the first time they will take place in the UK. They will be held between 19th and 25th of July in Weymouth and Portland where it is expected that there will be more than 250 competitors.

Mr Bridgman said: “I’ve had a very interesting winter travelling across Asia but now I’m really looking forward to a good summer of sailing. I had a great experience training with the US sailing team in Hawaii, and I enjoyed coming back to Guernsey during May but unfortunately, I picked up a hand injury while I was training in the island which has forced me to miss the first regatta. I’m keen to get back out on the water as soon as possible because a new design of rudder foil has been introduced this year which means that the boats can travel much quicker and it should lead to some very exciting racing during this season.”

In preparation for the world championships, Mr Bridgman accepted an invitation to join the US sailing team camp in Hawaii earlier in the year. He is now training and competing in a series of regattas across Europe before participating in the world championships as part of the Great Britain contingent and under the banner of the Guernsey Yacht Club.

Cees Vermaas, CEO of TISE, said: “We’re delighted to once again support Andrew in his mission to be number one in the world. Sailing at this level takes a lot of commitment in a number of different ways and so we are pleased to offer our assistance. All of us here at TISE wish Andrew the very best for the season ahead and especially the world championships in the UK.”
