ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute has announced the election of Teresa Le Couteur, Group Company Secretary for Northern Trust Guernsey, as Chair of the Institute’s Guernsey Branch, effective 1st January 2021.
Teresa was elected to the position by the Bailiwick’s membership and succeeds Paul Smith, who chaired the branch from May 2019 until December 2020, having been Vice Chair since January 2016.
Named Company Secretary of the Year at the 2020 ICSA Guernsey Awards, Teresa is a Chartered Secretary with over 20 years’ experience working in the finance industry.
Speaking about her appointment, Teresa said: “I’m honoured to have been elected to serve as Chair of the Institute’s Guernsey Branch and look forward to continuing to work with the other members of the Branch Committee to promote both the value of good governance, the Institute and the Branch.
“Good governance is the bedrock upon which Guernsey has built its reputation as one of the premier offshore financial jurisdictions in the world. The expertise that our members and students bring to the financial services sector and other businesses in Guernsey mean that clients can be sure they are dealing with well-regulated firms staffed by highly trained individuals.
“In my term of office, I look forward to refreshing our approach in order to connect with our colleagues, students and the wider audience through more varied and accessible methods. I am particularly keen to develop and communicate the many ways the Guernsey Branch can support people in their current roles, along with their future growth and development.
“2020 presented most of us with numerous challenges, but it also provided some unprecedented opportunities, such as different ways to approach our work/life balance. This means how good governance looks and feels will naturally evolve and the Guernsey Branch will be available to provide guidance and support where possible. Our recently established Technical Sub-Committee is just one example of the ways in which we can help.
“I would like to thank my fellow Branch Members for their continuing support throughout my previous tenure as a Committee Member and now as Chair”.
