The Guernsey Branch of ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Guernsey Branch Awards, which recognise the achievements of Guernsey’s top governance professionals and corporate service providers. The academic achievements of the Institute’s members and students were also celebrated at the Guernsey Branch Annual Dinner and Awards, which took place at the Duke of Richmond Hotel on Friday, 13 November 2020.

The winners of this year’s Awards are as follows:

  • Company Secretary of the Year 2020: Teresa le Couteur, Northern Trust Guernsey
  • Governance Professional of the Year 2020: Shona Darling, PraxisIFM Group
  • Corporate Services Team of the Year 2020: Alter Domus (Guernsey) Limited
  • The One to Watch 2020: Francesca Fossey, TMF Group.

The Student Excellence Awards for achieving the best international score on papers submitted were presented to:

  • Sally Hunt, Artemis CI Limited – IFA 5 Module, Trust & Company Administration
  • Evie Page, Artemis CI Limited – IFA 5 Module, Financial Reporting & Governance
  • Briony Smallman, Langham Hall – IFA 4 Core Modules.

Sarah Colley, Managing Partner of First Intuition Channel Islands, which sponsored the Student Excellence Awards said: “First Intuition are delighted to continue our support for these Awards and to recognise the very high standard of the students in the Channel Islands”.

Paul Smith, Chair of the Institute’s Guernsey Branch said of the event: “The Awards are the focal point of the Guernsey Branch Annual Dinner and celebrate the accomplishments of members and students in the field of governance. This year we are particularly proud of the achievements of our members and students who have shown great fortitude and pragmatism in the face of extremely challenging circumstances. COVID-19 has had a huge impact on business and the world of work, not to mention the impact on people’s lives in general.

“The amount of work that our members have had to do in order to ensure that good governance practices have been maintained while businesses adapt to the ‘new normal’ has increased substantially and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. Our winners’ commitment to maintaining the highest standards of governance in quite extraordinary circumstances has reinforced the benefit that good governance brings to companies and the economy and has also shown the added value that governance professionals bring to any business.

“We are also delighted to recognise the academic success of our students. Their success is Guernsey’s success as these are the governance professionals, company secretaries and trust administrators of the future who will help to maintain Guernsey’s reputation as a premier offshore financial jurisdiction. A particular mention must go to Evie Page who was also recognised in last year’s Student Excellence Awards when she took home the Awards for Best paper in Accounting (November 2018) and Best paper in Investment (June 2019). Congratulations to Evie and all of our Awards winners for their technical excellence, professionalism and dedication”.

Local celebrity and Coronavirus response expert Dr Nicola Brink MBE, Guernsey’s Director of Public Health, who was the guest speaker at the event, presented the winners with their awards.
