In 2024, the Sure Community Foundation donated nearly £7,000 to 11 local charities, helping support children’s health, sailing opportunities, and heart condition services across Jersey.
This funding comes at a crucial time, as a recent PwC report revealed that one in three of Jersey’s 775 charities are financially vulnerable, with less than three months of reserves.
Thanks to monthly employee contributions and fundraising, over £4,000 went to the Neil Hussey Heart Charity, Age Concern and Macmillan Cancer Support. The donations enabled free ECG tests for young people, vital services for older islanders, and translated cancer support leaflets into Portuguese and Polish.
Chair of the Sure Community Foundation, and Sure’s Group Head of HR, Lucienne De La Mare said: “It is incredibly rewarding to see how our contributions to local charities has impacted our community.
“Charity is at the heart of our island, and the generosity of islanders who volunteer their time to improve the lives of others should be celebrated. We’re so pleased to be able to connect individuals and their families to these invaluable support services here in Jersey.
“Thanks to the members of our Sure Community Foundation members and all colleagues who have made this happen through their donations, generosity and hard work.”
Community and Engagement lead for MacMillan Cancer Support Jersey Andrew Gardham said: “We know one in two people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’ in their lifetime, and with Jersey being such a diverse island of many cultures, we feel that it is a necessity for every islander to know that the support is there when they need it. The Sure Community Foundation’s donation allowed us to reprint and translate our resources to Portuguese and Polish, making our support more accessible to hundreds of islanders.”
