A mobile food app that helps islanders reduce waste and save money has been rolled out across 20 more stores after a successful launch.
Gander, which displays supermarkets’ available reduced-to-clear food in real time, was first introduced through Morrisons stores in July. The app is now live and operational in Iceland and Checkers Xpress in Jersey and Guernsey and Le Cocq’s Stores in Alderney, bringing the total number of compatible stores up to 39 across the Channel Islands.
“We are delighted that the initial roll-out was very popular with Islanders so it was natural to extend the offering and partner with Iceland, Checkers Xpress and Le Cocq’s Stores in Alderney. This means we can provide shoppers and retailers with the ability to take a more mindful and sustainable approach to food shopping”, said Ashley Osborne, co-founder of Gander.
Mr Osborne, who developed the app in the Isle of Man, said the app had proved hugely popular with islanders, enjoying nearly 7,000 downloads in just over one month.
Mike Rutter, SandpiperCI’s retail managing director said: “The Morrisons Daily trial went very well over the summer, so we’re delighted to extend the Gander app and its cost savings to more local shoppers through Iceland, Checkers Xpress and Le Cocq’s Stores from this month. We know many Islanders are keen to help tackle environmental problems from avoidable food waste, so the Gander app is a great addition for us”.
