The Association for Project Management (APM) in the Channel Islands has announced two forthcoming events taking place in Jersey.
The APM is the chartered body for the project profession. With over 30,000 individual members and more than 500 organisations, the APM is the largest professional body for project management in Europe.
In the Channel Islands, the APM has many members who are project managers across many diverse industry types including financial services, telecommunications and the built environment. However, until now, there has been no organisation in place to oversee and organise events specifically for the Channel Islands.
Recently, three local senior project managers came together to help grow the membership of the APM in Jersey, Carl Ibbet (JT), Alex Knowelden (BHP) and Eliot Lincoln (BDO Greenlight). They have also invited Ellie Knowelden and Tim Guilbert from Guernsey to join, who collectively form APM in the Channel Isles.
Carl Ibbet, who has led the drive spoke eagerly about the forthcoming events: “It is an exciting time for the APM in the Channel Islands. There are already a significant number of APM members here, but there has been no regular forum for the project managers to meet and share our project management experiences. Alex, Eliot and I have organised the first, of what we hope will be many, events to provide a networking opportunity for project managers and hearing about local success stories that underline the benefits that good project management can bring.”
Daragh McDermott, Director of Corporate Affairs at JT and the keynote speaker for the evening APM event said: “As one of the Channel Islands leading technology companies, project management is important to us from both a network enhancement and customer experience point of view. I am very supportive of a Channel Island Project Forum, keeping, retaining and developing local talent and sharing best practice across our industries. As such I am pleased to have been asked by the organisers to join this first event to speak about the completion of the island’s largest infrastructure project – JT’s full-fibre network.”
The APM in the Channel Islands is also hosting an event for current and aspiring project managers to find out what the APM is about and what it can do for them.
Organiser Alex Knowelden said: “As a profession, project management can be exciting and variable as well as highly demanding. By developing the APM in the Channel Islands, we expect to provide a networking forum for those in our profession, to swap stories, techniques, ideas and generally be in the presence of like-minded project professionals. We are hoping to show those who may consider a career in project management what the profession is all about and both guide and support them into one of the most progressive and stimulating careers.”
Both events are being held on Tuesday 1 October at The Pomme D’Or Hotel
