LibertyBus are delighted to be teaming up with Alexander Dennis to trial another state of the art zero emission Double Decker Bus.
The bus is on trial from 6th to 13th December 2024. Once we have conducted some out of service trials across our double decker routes, we are hoping to be able to trial the bus live in service on route 15.
Whilst we have trialled other electric buses and a Double Decker back in 2019, the technology has significantly moved on and therefore we are making sure we trial all options before we commit to purchasing such vehicles.
With the aligned aspirations of GoJ and LibertyBus in accelerating decarbonising the public transport network in Jersey it is essential that we trial all available options so that we are satisfied we have the right bus for the island.
The new Enviro400EV is a versatile battery-electric double decker bus that provides a comfortable travelling experience for up to 73 seated passengers in the specification evaluated by LibertyBus. Its heavy-duty drive system and 472kWh battery provide ample power and range, contributing to class-leading 97% grid-to-wheel efficiency that keeps operating costs to a minimum.
Commenting on the trial, Kevin Hart, Director for LibertyBus said: “We are excited about trialling this electric double decker bus on the Island. The vehicle on trial is around 15cm longer than our current double decker’s but we are confident that given the manoeuvrability of the vehicle it shouldn’t cause an issue for our island’s roads. Once we have concluded out of service trials, we will be operating the bus on our route 15 during the week, and we would love to hear the feedback from our customers.”
Shaun Millar, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis added: “We are pleased to have made the next-generation Enviro400EV available for this trial by Tower Transit in Jersey. We expect that ‘the crowd-shifter’ will perform well with its comfortable passenger experience and outstanding energy efficiency. We are really looking forward to the feedback from Tower Transit which will help us to further refine our Enviro400EV.”
