LibertyBus and transport technology expert UrbanThings who teamed up early in 2023 to introduce the LibertyBus app have now introduced mobile ticketing to the LibertyBus app.
The innovative feature will allow passengers from 16 January 2024 to purchase and download tickets in advance of travel, straight from their smartphone, revolutionising bus travel on the island. Mobile tickets will now be available right alongside the bus real time information and journey planning tools already provided in the app.
Downloads of the app over the last 10 months have reached in excess of 20,000 making the LibertyBus app one of the quickest take up of use app’s Urban Things have seen in their years of delivering apps to the transport industry.
The app supports various ticket types, whether it’s a single ticket, multiple tickets at a discounted rate, a monthly pass for regular commuters, or even a visitor passes.
The LibertyBus app, which is available at the App store and Google Play, makes buying your ticket as simple as the journey planning function, and it also shows live bus positions, bus stop information, bus loading information, saved bus stops, school bus routes and buses, and will also show links to diversion information.
Director for LibertyBus Kevin Hart said: “It’s great to move to the next stage of development with our app and make catching the bus even easier as you can buy your tickets in advance making boarding times even quicker. You can also buy a ticket for someone and gift it to them, so if you have a member of your family with their mobile phone but no funds to pay for the trip you can buy the ticket from the comfort of your own home and send it straight to their mobile phone…”
Managing Director for Tower Transit UK Samuel Ribeiro says: “We are excited to continue to invest in LibertyBus, making things better for everyone in Jersey – whether you are a resident or just visiting. With this new app feature we are simplifying ticket buying and speeding up boarding. Embracing the digital transformation aligns with Digital Jersey’s goals. For us, it is more than just transportation; it’s about being an active part of the Jersey community.”
Guy Sutherland, Head of Bids & Partnerships at UrbanThings said: “We are thrilled about introducing smart ticketing in the LibertyBus to further simplify travel for bus passengers in Jersey. The growing adoption of the app is promising and we’re looking forward to continuing its development in the future to delight customers with a streamlined travel experience.”
