LibertyBus, has announced unprecedented growth in passenger numbers for the year 2023.
Since the start of the operation in 2013, LibertyBus has been dedicated to enhancing the island’s public transportation system in collaboration with the Government of Jersey. This commitment has culminated in an extraordinary surge in bus ridership, marking a significant milestone in the island’s transportation landscape.
Kevin Hart, Director of LibertyBus, said: “We are immensely proud to witness such excellent growth in ridership throughout the island. This milestone is a testament to our dedication to collating customer feedback and providing reliable and efficient bus services to the community.”
Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic in 2020, LibertyBus remained resilient, adapting to ensure continuity of service. Through collaborative efforts with the Government, LibertyBus swiftly restored bus services to near-normal levels, instilling confidence in commuters and travellers alike.
The recently released passenger figures for 2023 depict a remarkable achievement, with LibertyBus achieving 100% of pre-covid levels and surpassing the 5 million passenger mark, matching the record-breaking numbers achieved in 2019.
Minister for Infrastructure, Constable Andy Jehan, said: “It’s brilliant news to see the number of Islanders taking the bus has returned to pre-covid levels, despite more of our working population now working from home. Introducing the annual pass for students has helped encourage our younger generations to get on the bus as a more sustainable way of travelling. As someone who uses the bus, I have seen for myself the increased numbers on the buses, and we continue to work closely with LibertyBus to ensure that public transport is serving our Islanders.”
