Final plans are now in place for this year’s Skipton Swimarathon, which takes place between Wednesday 2 – Sunday 6 October at Beau Sejour.

A mainstay of the island’s charitable events calendar, this year’s beneficiary is the G.S.P.C.A. with the aim of raising enough money to build a brand-new pool area to help recuperating sea life, including turtles and seals.

John Stuart, Chairman of the Organising Committee said: “Both the clubs who collaboratively put on this popular annual event (The Lions and Guernsey Round
Table) hope that everyone will support the Skipton Swimarathon and get behind the charity. I’d like to think that for every pound that our swimmers raise, it could be helping another animal in need.”

Steve Byrne, manager of the G.S.P.C.A. commented: “The G.S.P.C.A. can only exist with the support of the public so I would urge as many people as possible to form a team, take the plunge and raise as much as you can. I promise you it will be well spent.”

Although support so far has been strong, there are still several lanes available to anyone who wants to form a team (a minimum of 6-8 people is recommended) to take part. Being a strong swimmer is not a necessity – many teams walk or paddle – and it is always considered great fun by those who take part.

More information about the event and how to book can be found here.
