Les Amis is back in the community for Learning Disability Week

For the first time in over a year, Les Amis will be out and about within the community as part of Learning Disability week, as the charity greets the public and promotes awareness around its services.

You will find Les Amis in St Helier raising awareness around what it means to live with a learning disability and how the charity supports those individuals and their families.

Learning Disability Week takes place from 14-20 June and celebrates this year’s theme of art and creativity, a subject which greatly helped the charity and its residents throughout the pandemic.

Jason Loveless (pictured), Head of Support Services, told Channel Eye: “It feels so good to be able to get out and about again, speaking to the wider community once more about what the charity was been through over the last year and the struggles we continue to face. We would have struggled as a charity had it not been for the huge support of the public, our corporate partners, and the relationships we developed with other organisations and community groups. This week gives us the chance to say, ‘thank you’ in person for this overwhelming support.”

Les Amis will be located at Brook Street in St Helier from Monday till Thursday. The week will culminate with Les Amis’ participation in the Island Walk which takes place on 19 June. Les Amis will be manning a stand on the day at Greve de Lecq, greeting walkers and members of the public.

Les Amis is one of the island’s largest charities and aims to help those with learning disabilities and/or associated conditions reach their full potential in life. Les Amis was part of the cluster group which recently committed to a Learning Disability and Autism Charter in partnership with Government, as it works together to adopt a common approach to caring and introducing minimum working standards.
