Children from Le Rondin School will have the opportunity to enjoy tailored music sessions through a new programme called Music Makers.
Launched by the Guernsey Youth Commission and Guernsey Music Centre, thanks to sponsorship from Collas Crill, the programme has been designed to support neurodiversity, physical disabilities and communication differences.
The aim of the sessions is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where Le Rondin pupils can explore music and develop new skills.
The programme will take place at Saturday Music Centre alongside existing groups and ensembles, providing participants with opportunities to engage in music-making as part of the wider music community.
Head of the Guernsey Music Service, Tim Wright, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to work with the Youth Commission and Collas Crill to introduce our ‘Music Makers’ programme at the Guernsey Music Centre.
“The funding from Collas Crill will enable our specialist teachers to deliver high-quality music education outside of school in the safe environment of the Youth Commission space, ensuring that these sessions fit with our mission statement: Include, Inspire, Enjoy, Excel.”
Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Commission, Lou Leale, said: “Music can provide a valuable opportunity for children with additional learning needs to express themselves, build confidence and develop social connections.
“The Music Maker sessions will offer opportunities for children to explore sound, rhythm and movement in a relaxed and inclusive setting, while also supporting communication, turn-taking, listening skills, emotional wellbeing and sensory regulation.
“We hope that, through regular participation, children will develop increased confidence, improved engagement with peers and adults, stronger communication and social skills, and a greater sense of belonging. We also hope the group will provide a positive and enjoyable activity for families who may otherwise find it difficult to access inclusive community opportunities.”
Funding from Collas Crill will cover staffing costs, musical instruments and related equipment needed to deliver the programme.
