Last call for the ‘True grit challenge’, supporting Wetwheels charity

Time is running out for people to sign up for the True Grit Wetwheels Challenge, staged on Jersey’s rugged north coast next month.

True Grit is held at Ronez Quarry over a challenging 4.3km course and is open to individuals as well as teams of three. Challengers can choose a course with, or without obstacles. The event was hugely successful when it was launched in 2020 and registrations are looking positive for this year’s event, with just over one month to go but there are still a few places left.

True Grit 2021 (postponed from last year because of Covid-19) is sponsored by Ravenscroft, Carey Olsen and Seapower Marine,  and operated by 3D Events, with all proceeds going to Wetwheels Jersey.

Kate Millar of 3D Events says: “We’ve introduced obstacles for the 2022 challenge which will make the event challenging and a lot of fun. Given the lack of events like this over the past two years, this is a great opportunity for runners to lace up their trainers, reconnect with their colleagues and test themselves against others, and the course.”

Dina Rogan, Operations Director for Wetwheels Jersey says: “We can’t wait to get cracking with this event again. It’s challenging, yes, but it is also something really different and you can take your time, we focus on getting everyone over the finish line.

“The feedback we had from 2020 was overwhelmingly positive but we’d like to see even more people take part this year because they will be helping disabled and disadvantaged people get out on the water and see Jersey from a totally different perspective, something many of us take for granted.”

In 2020 nearly 200 people pitted themselves against the terrain with many corporate entries who used the event for team building. This year the modified course includes a mix of natural and newly built obstacles including sandpit crawls, tyre flips and carries.

The event would not be possible without the support of Ronez, who not only allow exclusive use of the quarry for the event but also provide race volunteers and help lay out the course.

The True Grit Challenge takes place on Sunday 20th March. Click here for more details and to enter.
