Intertrust hosted a Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) networking event for more than 30 local students to learn about life in finance.
At the ‘CISI Introduction to Financial Services Insight Day’ the students discovered the variety of roles on offer in the finance industry – including support functions like HR and marketing. The initiative aimed to inspire young people studying the CISI Level 1 and 2 investment qualifications to consider the potential career opportunities in Jersey so that local talent is retained on the island.
Some of the sessions included introductions to markets, game theory, the rise of the surveillance economy, the evolution of sustainable investing and how careers can thrive despite ‘frothy financial markets’. Students also got the unique chance to speed network with 29 industry professionals.
Katie Grant, HR Business Partner & Head of Learning at Intertrust, said: “This is the second year we have hosted the event and it’s a fantastic opportunity for students to improve their understanding of careers in finance. We hope we inspired them and opened their eyes to the vast possibilities that exist in the sector.
“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive; students appreciated the variety of content and insight into the diversity of job roles. It’s so important that we invest in our young talent to give them the best start in their careers, this will ultimately keep the finance industry in Jersey thriving in years to come.”
Bianca Jacques, Education Development Officer at CISI, said: “The third annual Financial Services Insight Day was a huge success. The students heard from a range of excellent speakers and were fortunate to be able to network with professionals from several firms, who spoke about what it’s really like to work in the industry. A huge thank you to all who took part.”
The students who attended are studying at Highlands College, Beaulieu Convent, Victoria College and De La Salle College.
