Guernsey’s football fans turned out in force, and, combined with a number of visiting Isle of Man supporters, gave the players a rousing reception.

The victors were Guernsey FC, winning in a nail-biting penalty shootout, with the elated captain receiving the Skipton Cup trophy from Skipton International’s Business Development Director Nigel Pascoe.

Nigel said: “It was a pleasure to hand the Skipton Cup to Guernsey’s Jamie Dodd following a hard-fought match which resulted in a thrilling penalty shoot out. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the ground and I am certain the excitement will grow over the years as the Skipton Cup becomes a regular annual fixture.”

FC Isle of Man Commercial Director, Ty Smith, who was visiting Guernsey for the first time, said: “Irrespective of the result, this was a truly great occasion and huge congratulations go out to Guernsey FC and Skipton International for putting on such an excellent event at a time when a positive story seems more welcome than ever.

“Two island communities coming together to enjoy each other’s company and cultures, through the prism of sport is exactly that, and exactly what these projects are all about. The hospitality the club and our fans have received whilst being here has been fantastic and we can’t wait to reciprocate again when we compete for the 2nd Skipton Cup next summer on the Isle of Man”.

The Skipton Cup will be contested annually between both islands in a three-year deal agreed with Guernsey-registered bank Skipton International.
