Over 300 runners laced up their trainers to take part in this year’s Guernsey Mind Investec 10K Fun Run earlier this month, raising more than £9,000 for the charity in the process.
The Fun Run, which is sponsored by Investec Bank (Channel Islands) Limited (Investec), is the biggest fundraising event of the year for Guernsey Mind.
The event promotes the link between physical and mental health and raises much-needed funds for Guernsey Mind. Entrants of all abilities, aged 16-years-old and over, can take part in what is now established as one of the Island’s most inclusive running events.
Although numbers were slightly down on last year, the organisers believe that may be because more people have started travelling again. Nonetheless, Maddy Diligent of the charity says the event was a huge success: “This is a major event for us and we’re grateful to Investec not just for their financial support, but for the staff who volunteered as marshals on the day. With Investec on board for another two years we are looking to shake up the Fun Run in 2022, making it bigger and better! The money raised this year will help fund our expanding therapy service.”
Brendan Stewart, CEO of Investec added, “We were delighted to renew our sponsorship of this event and to offer our people’s support as marshals. We firmly believe we should live in the community, not off it and this event gives us an opportunity to do a lot more than just provide financial support. In the three weeks up to and including the Fun Run our team gave over 100 hours of their time in volunteering for local causes. We are looking forward to working with Maddy and her team on next year’s event.”
On completion of the Fun Run, participants were handed a voucher for any Woodies coffee shop in Guernsey, sponsored jointly with Investec.
The date of next year’s Fun Run has been set for 11th September 2022.
