HSBC held a special Lunar New Year celebration this week to officially mark the opening of its newly refurbished St Brelade branch.
Following a nine-month refurbishment and investment programme over the course of 2025, the St Brelade branch has doubled in size, now extending over two floors and featuring a suite of new meeting and interview rooms, a counter service facility and a new dedicated Premier Banking floor.
Ahead of the Lunar New Year next week, the special in-branch event provided colleagues and customers with the opportunity to celebrate the banks cultural heritage and global connections.
The branch was decorated to celebrate the Year of the Fire Horse, and attendees watched a traditional lion-dancer, received ‘good-luck’ red envelopes and fortune cookies and had their names and new year messages written by a Chinese calligrapher.
Also in attendance at the celebratory event was Jersey’s Chief Minister Deputy Lyndon Farnham, in his capacity as the new incoming Chair of Age Concern, as well as outgoing Age Concern Chair Ben Shenton and St Brelade Connétable Mike Jackson, who were both instrumental in enabling the set-up of a temporary branch at Communicare in St Brelade last year to ensure the community were supported while branch refurbishments took place.
Alvaro Teixeira, Head of International Wealth and Premier Banking, said: “As a global bank with deep roots in Asia, celebrating the reopening of our St Brelade branch at the start of Lunar New Year is especially meaningful. The Year of the Horse symbolises energy, progress and new beginnings, which perfectly reflects our investment in this branch as we continue to serve the community and our customers with their immediate and future wealth management needs.”
St Brelade Connétable, Mike Jackson, added: “It was a pleasure to support, along with Ben Shenton, the set-up of a temporary branch at Communicare during the renovation period, a move that was undoubtedly appreciated by residents in the area. I’m pleased that HSBC has invested in its presence at Les Quennevais, providing support for the community and its customers.”
