Post-16 students from across Guernsey came together for the 2025 Student Summit: The Future with AI, an inspiring event designed to help young people understand how artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of work.

Part of the Digital Greenhouse’s Digital Innovators Programme, the Summit featured expert-led talks and hands-on demos, giving students real insight into how AI is already transforming industries and what skills they’ll need to thrive.

Keynote speakers included Patrick Cunningham, Director and co-founder of local digital agency Indulge, and Professor Dan Brown from University College London (UCL), both of whom shared their perspectives on AI’s growing influence.

Patrick Cunningham opened the event with a thought-provoking presentation titled ‘Today, Tomorrow, and Into the Future’. He outlined how AI tools – ranging from productivity boosters to full-scale automation – are becoming central to modern business. Patrick emphasised that staying ahead of the curve with AI will be vital for young people entering a competitive job market.

“The job market is going to be challenging over the next few years, and it’s important that young people are ahead of the game with AI,” said Patrick.

UCL’s Professor Dan Brown led the second session, focusing on the skills needed to succeed in an AI-driven world. From adaptability and critical thinking to data analysis, Dan explained how future workers will need to understand and manage AI tools rather than just use them.

Students also got hands-on with Replit, an AI-powered coding platform, building space-invader-style games with a burger twist in under 15 minutes.

“It was great to see Guernsey’s next generation so engaged, dynamic, and thoughtful,” said Professor Brown. “The future is in their hands, and it gives real optimism.”

The Student Summit is one of a series of AI-focused activities offered this year through the Digital Innovators Programme, which also includes a virtual learning course delivered in partnership with UCL and an upcoming AI Hackathon this summer.
