The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland – Bailiwick of Guernsey branch has today confirmed that William Mason, Director General of the GFSC, will open the Institute’s annual conference with a speech about international regulatory governance.

Mr Mason will discuss how international regulations are evolving and the potential impact of this on Guernsey.

The theme of this year’s conference, which is taking place on 23 September 2021 at the St Pierre Park Hotel, is ‘Creating a sustainable future’.

A strong lineup of speakers will follow Mr Mason, including Susie Crowder, Director of Human Capital at Grant Thornton Limited and Kirsty Wheadon, Director, Grant Thornton Limited who will be talking about the importance of supporting employee wellbeing as companies look to ensure longevity. A session on mindfulness by Emma Desprès, Yoga Teacher, Author and Founder of Beinspired Yoga will also show delegates how to get the most out of themselves and their staff.

Teresa Le Couteur, Chair of the Institute’s Bailiwick of Guernsey Branch comments: “Each year business experts and Guernsey’s leading governance professionals come together to talk about the issues that businesses on the island are facing. The pandemic blindsided businesses around the globe when it first hit and since then businesses have been grappling with a whole host of measures to steer a path through. Now that businesses are no longer in crisis mode, many are looking to the future and contemplating what is needed to ensure long-term success.”

“This year’s conference is, therefore, focussing on how companies can create a sustainable future. We will be considering how companies can ensure authentic environmental, social governance and examining the role that chartered company secretaries play in supporting listed companies. In addition, we will be discussing cyber risk, the best ways to invest in the wake of COVID-19, the impact that virtual board and committee meetings has had on effective governance and the best way for companies to harness good governance in order to meet regulatory requirements.”

“We will also be using the occasion of this year’s annual conference to celebrate the academic achievements of our members and students. Those students who have excelled in the Institute’s global examinations will have  their accomplishments recognised by the Guernsey Branch Committee.”
