VisitGuernsey has partnered with location finding app what3words to offer a fun new way to explore the Bailiwick’s hard-to-find, must-see sights.
A competition will launch in March encouraging people to use the free app to discover some of the islands’ most scenic locations, with prizes up for grabs.
‘There are many must see locations and sights across the Islands of Guernsey that visitors can miss out on seeing,’ said a VisitGuernsey spokesperson.
‘The aim of the competition and the partnership with what3words is to help visitors find these hard-to-reach locations in an easy and fun way and to encourage them to share their pictures of these hidden gems with their friends and families via social media.’
What3words has assigned each three-metre-square in the world with a unique three-word address, similar to a GPS coordinate. The address can pinpoint specific locations that can’t be found by postcodes alone. For example, the site on Herm used by Nazi soldiers to capture propaganda films can be found using the what3words address ‘sizes.moreover.arching.’
VisitGuernsey has identified 20 sights so far, including a scenic viewpoint in Herm, the Venus Pools in Sark, and the best place to watch Guernsey’s Liberation Day fireworks. Each location’s what3words address is published on VisitGuernsey.com and more addresses will be added throughout the year.
