Sponsored for the sixth year in succession by Rossborough Insurance, the 2021 edition of the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s round Jersey race is now open for entries.

Scheduled for Sunday 15th August, this 45-mile race is open to both local and visiting sports boats, cruiser/racers and sport catamarans. It will start at 9.30 am in St Aubin’s Bay before heading eastwards to the distant Violet Channel buoy to follow an anti-clockwise course around the Island before returning to finish in St Aubin’s Bay.

Competition for the ancient Jesse Boot and Cabot Memorial trophies will, undoubtedly, be keen in the cruiser/racer classes whilst the Club’s Hobie fleet will be battling it out for the F18 and open sport catamaran trophies.

RCIYC Commodore James Wilding explained to Channel Eye: ‘This is one of the most venerable and prestigious races in the Island’s racing calendar and it gives us all great pleasure to have Rossborough Insurance in the sponsor’s seat for the sixth year running.  Their keen support truly adds to the attraction and excitement of this great event.

“With weather and navigational challenges to the fore, to circumnavigate Jersey is always a really exciting experience and a joy for all competitors of whatever level of experience. It is one of the most memorable ways to see our beautiful island, taking in the scenic beauty of the numerous bays and spectacular cliffs, especially along the north coast and southwest approaches.’

Rossborough’s Group Managing Director, James Anderson commented: “A firm fixture on the Island’s calendar, dating back to 1931, we’re proud to support this prestigious and long-standing event. After a challenging year for many, the race is a great showcase of not only competitive but also community spirit. We’re looking forward to another fantastic event”

The cut and thrust of the day’s racing will be followed by a formal prize-giving and supper in the clubhouse at St Aubin.

Aspiring competitors will find the Notice of Race and subsequent postings in the clubhouse and online. Entry is online with a closing date of Wednesday 11th August. Further information is available from the Club Administrator, call 01534 745783 or e-mail [email protected].
