Deloitte Isle of Man volunteers and local community members recently joined forces for a litter pick to prevent waste washing into the sea.

The initiative was part of Deloitte Futures Month in June and in collaboration with Plastic Busters and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), Deloitte Global’s partner charity.

The team picked up plastic and other litter to prevent it from being washed out to sea and harming local marine life, including whales and dolphins which are at high risk from plastic pollution.

Dominic Wall, Assistant Manager at Deloitte Isle of Man, is part of the Plastic Busters team, who regularly organises clean-ups with the local community.

He said: “The amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans is staggering, and its impact on wildlife is extremely detrimental. Up to 95% of the litter in our oceans originates from our towns, cities, and villages, making its way to the sea through waterways so every action we take can make a difference.

“I’m thrilled to see Deloitte actively participating in such an important endeavour.”

Deloitte volunteers and the partnering charities were encouraged to bring their families and friends along to the event to learn about the impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems and what we can do to make a difference.

Laura O’Sullivan Spiers, Director at Deloitte Isle of Man, said: “Even the smallest actions can have a profound impact, so here at Deloitte we are proud to be doing our bit to help local marine wildlife.

“It’s great to be teaming up with some amazing charities to support their work surrounding such important environmental issues.”
