On Friday, September 27th, 2024, Baccata hosted its annual lecture in Jersey, Channel Islands.
Speaker Katja Hoyer, a renowned historian and lecturer at London University and author of the acclaimed Beyond the Wall, explored the evolving partnership between Britain and (pictured) Germany and its implications for the modern European context.
The lecture titled ‘Britain and Germany: Are They Reliable Partners in the Modern European Context?’ examined the political, economic, and cultural dynamics shaping this crucial relationship. Hoyer’s analysis provided a fresh perspective on how these nations can address post Brexit challenges in the face of the Ukraine crisis and the rise of the popular nationalism in recent elections in Germany. The legacy of a German Occupation during World War 2 in these islands was not lost on the speaker.
Nicholas Falla, Group Chairman and Director of the Baccata Group of Companies noted: “The possible need to Germany and Britain to work very closely together at all levels in an uncertain world needs to be understood. Katja Hoyer’s has provided a very timely overview of the complexities and sensitivities that this relationship faces.”
