There was been a ‘fantastically positive’ response to this year’s Jersey Charity Awards, with judging having now been completed ahead of the ceremony due to take place later this month.
Organised by the Association of Jersey Charities (AJC), the Awards are designed to recognise outstanding achievement, professionalism and excellence amongst organisations and individuals in Jersey’s charity sector – with more than 30 local charities having entered this year across the small, medium and large categories.
Winners will be announced at a special Afternoon Tea Awards Ceremony in the grounds of Government house on 14 th September, and are selected through a rigorous assessment process, with applications having first been shortlisted via a ‘Pre-Selection Panel’, including Edward Lewis, Executive Director of Jersey Overseas Aid, Helen Vieira, finance industry professional, and Lyn Wilton, AJC Administrator.
The panel of JCA Judges – Paul Routier MBE, Charles Humpleby, Liz Le Poidevin and Jane Galloway – then assessed all the entries and selected the top three charities in each of the three categories. There is a £5,000 prize for the winner of each category as well as prizes for two runners up.
In deciding the winners, judges considered examples of excellence, best practice and leadership, focusing particularly on how charities have adapted to and delivered innovative solutions in response the challenging circumstances over the past year.
Eyes are now firmly fixed on the Afternoon Tea Ceremony, which will be hosted by Gwyn Garfield Bennett and will feature musical entertainment from The Ukulele Club. Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor, His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Jerry Kyd KBE, will also provide a welcome at the event.
The Awards are once again supported by the Ana Leaf Foundation and Jersey Finance, with fundraising undertaken by finance industry firms going towards the Awards’ prize funds.
Robert Surcouf, Chair of the AJC, commented: “The purpose of the Jersey Charity Awards is not just to celebrate the achievements of the finalists and winners, but also to inspire the other Jersey charities to innovate and aim for even higher levels of excellence. With that in mind, I’m pleased that we have had such a fantastically positive response to our Awards once again, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the value of our sector to the local community on 14th September. I’d also like to thank all those volunteers, including our judges, who have given their time to make these Awards such a success.”
