Jersey-based game development company, Lapin Logic, is developing ‘Kerb Kids’, an educational game. The game is being developed for Headway Jersey.
Since Channel Eye last caught-up with Paul Arnold, Managing Director of Lapin Logic, there have been exciting developments (catch-up here with the last time we met Paul).
Paul told us: “Lapin Logic has recently been in talks with a publisher in regard to its road safety game, Kerb Kids. The publisher conducted a product review of our Demo 2.0 and it passed.
“Working with the publisher has been made possible via Max Brown, who I met when I was living in Brighton in 2016/2017. Max is something of a games industry veteran. He has extensive experience in the games industry from traditional retail through to MMOs (massively multiplayer online game).
“Initially at Mindscape in the 1980’s as Operations Manager then Business Development Manager, Max oversaw the release of successful games such as Wing Commander, Ultima Series, Simms, the first Mario titles on Gameboy, Sensible Soccer, Chessmaster and other titles from the Garriott Bros, Maxis and the Bitmap Bros.
Max also had significant roles with GT Interactive, NC Soft Europe before, most recently, setting-up Spiderlight Entertainment, which is a new gaming start-up.
Paul tells us: “It is because of people like Max Brown and former Road Safety Officer, Philip Blake, that I have persevered with the Kerb Kids project for so long – nine years at this point.
“Their interest and support for this project over the years has made me realise that it is a worthwhile endeavour which has both merit and potential. I probably would have thrown in the towel a while ago if it wasn’t for them, so I am grateful.
“We recently put our project forward for the Springboard Crowdfunding platform. Digital Jersey have put it on a shortlist of projects that they think are a good fit for it.
“We aim to start-up development of Kerb Kids again in May, with the hope being that we can have the Jersey version completed by November of this year.
It will be available in all 31 Primary Schools for free and there will also be a version for the home available for a small charge, with all the money going to Headway Jersey which will hopefully help them recoup some of the £150,000.00 shortfall in funding they have experienced due to the pandemic.
Sponsorship opportunity
To bring this project to life, Lapin Logic is seeking corporate sponsorship from four local Jersey companies.
Paul explained: “We are looking to work with sponsors to help fund this exciting initiative The cost to launch this is £10,000, so we are seeking £2,500 from four companies. In return, they will have their brand featured in the full game and will also benefit from wider publicity. Not only that, but they will be helping educate Jersey’s children on road safety and supporting the Headway charity.
“If there are any potential investors out there that would like to get in touch, then please do.”
