Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK highlighted the Isle of Man’s role in disrupting international criminal networks when he opened the flagship Countering Financial Crime Conference at the Villa Marina.
Addressing an audience of more than 500 business professionals, regulators and law enforcement officers, he said the Island is committed to pursuing opportunities for economic growth while acting decisively to combat those who seek to exploit its financial systems.
The Chief Minister (pictured) said: ‘Financial crime is becoming more sophisticated, more technologically advanced and more organised that ever before. Professional networks operate across borders, posing a significant threat to our national security and economic stability.’
He added: ‘It is vital for the Isle of Man to have a global perspective on emerging issues, particularly in such unpredictable times. We must prove that we are a strong link in the chain of responsible nations that seek to combat transnational financial crime. Working together we can protect our community and reputation, while laying the groundwork for future security and prosperity.’
