Students in Jersey and Guernsey are celebrating their GCSE results today, with schools reporting strong performances and record results in some grade bands.
At Victoria College in Jersey, Year 11 students achieved the school’s highest level of top-grade attainment for formally sat and assessed examinations.
Grades 9 and 8 accounted for almost a third of all grades awarded, while around half of results were at Grade 7 or above. The College also recorded a five-year high for Grades 9 to 6, which represented 71% of all results.
The school said the cohort achieved a positive value-added score above national benchmarks and was placed within the top 25% of UK schools for student progress.
Headteacher Dr Gareth Hughes said: “Behind every result lies hard work, perseverance and personal growth, and I am absolutely delighted to see this cohort rewarded for their efforts in these record-breaking results. While the overall outcomes are fantastic, what matters most is the progress made by individuals across the grade range and that their personal expectations have been exceeded in so many cases.”
In Guernsey, The Ladies’ College also reported strong results, with more than 46% of grades awarded at A* or Grades 9 and 8, and 66% at A*/A or Grades 9 to 7.
Five out of every six grades were A* to B, or Grades 9 to 6, while 98% were A* to C. Sixteen students achieved all A*/A grades.
Every student at the College passed both Maths and English.
Principal Daniele Harford-Fox said: “Today we celebrate the outstanding achievements of our GCSE students, and I couldn’t be prouder of them. These results represent hard work, commitment and a real willingness to challenge themselves.
“This year’s results are a moment to celebrate, but they’re only a chapter in each student’s story. What excites me most is seeing the kind, brave and brilliant young women they are becoming.”
