Eleven charitable projects supporting Islanders living with disabilities have been awarded a total of £262,507.80 since the beginning of 2020.
The money came from proceeds from Channel Islands Lottery tickets and was awarded by Jersey Community Foundation and the Association of Jersey Charities.
Two of those charities who benefitted include Healing Waves (pictured) and Maison des Landes.
Healing Waves was awarded £31,012.80 in May 2024 by Jersey Community Foundation. They are using their Channel Islands Lottery funding to deliver life-changing ocean therapy for Islanders living with disabilities, conditions and mental health struggles, as well as additional support for their families. They enable clients to take part in sea activities like surfing and other water sports, unlocking their inner athlete and empowering them with a feeling of pride and accomplishment.
Maison des Landes was awarded £30,000 in June 2023 by the Association of Jersey Charities. They are using their Channel Islands Lottery grant to fund their Community Hub at the hotel – an accessible place where Jersey based community groups, disability organisations, charities and Jersey residents of all ages gather to enjoy lunch, entertainment and activities.
Jersey Community Foundation also awarded £2,763 of Channel Islands Lottery funding to Laugh, Move & Groove in June 2022. Additionally, the Association of Jersey Charities provided Channel Islands Lottery grants to several organisations, including Les Amis (£30,000 in September 2022), Jersey Cheshire Home (£30,000 in September 2022 and £30,000 in June 2021); Jersey Employment Trust (£5,332 in September 2022 and £25,400 in June 2021); BSK (£30,000 in March 2022); Wetwheels Jersey (£23,000 in December 2021); and Aspire Trust and BSK (£25,000 in June 2020).
The Channel Islands Lottery is jointly run by both governments in Jersey and Guernsey to raise money for charitable projects through the sale of scratch cards and the Christmas draw.
The Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, Deputy Kirsten Morel, said: “Thanks to the generosity of Channel Islands Lottery players, we are able to support a diverse range of charities. These grants enable organisations like Healing Waves and Maison des Landes to continue their essential work, providing vital services, support and opportunities that make a significant impact in the lives of Islanders living with disabilities and their families. The Channel Islands Lottery is proud to play a role in nurturing a more inclusive community and empowering those who need it most.”
