The Citywealth Powerwomen Awards 2024 International has taken place at the five-star Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s glamorous Park Lane.
Created over ten years ago by Karen Jones, multi-award winning CEO and founder of Citywealth, the event celebrates individuals and companies that promote female leadership and support career progression of women within the wealth management sector.
With International Women’s Day, Karen made an impassioned speech about the struggles women had to face to be given equal opportunities. She reminded the audience of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst who helped women to get the vote for the first time in 1928. The quote by author Jeanette Winterson “Behind every great woman is a man who tried to stop her” was greeted with applause and laughter by the audience, including the good-natured and supportive men also present at the event.
Karen’s speech was echoed by host Susan Bookbinder – TV presenter with a successful broadcasting career with BBC, ITV, Sky News and Reuters – who told the audience about her own struggles while climbing the career ladder as a female newsreader.
The Channel Islands took again pride of place with fourteen individuals and nine companies based in or with branches in the Channel Islands recognised for their excellence, scooping ten Gold awards between them.
Winners had been selected from a shortlist of over a hundred candidates drawn up by twelve judges, all prominent figures from the wealth industry. Additional online voting was verified by an independent third party.
Karen Jones, Editor and CEO of Citywealth, said of the winners: “Citywealth is delighted to have discovered a thoughtful and self- assured group in our Powerwomen finalists who will prove to be role models for women joining or returning into the wealth management industry. It is a pleasure to support their work and business development with these accolades. Congratulations to all the women who have been recognised in the Powerwomen Awards 2024.”
