Carey Olsen has won the Best Law Firm – Fund Structuring category at the recent 2020 PE Wire European Awards, while Mourant took the title for Best Offshore Law Firm.

The awards, which are hosted by funds publication privateequitywire, recognise the best private equity managers, investors, consultants, advisers and service providers over the past year.

The publication partnered with leading financial data and software company PitchBook to shortlist firms for each category following PitchBook’s own analysis of firms in the European private equity industry from 1 November 2018 – 31 October 2019. Readers of privateequitywire were then polled over a period of eight weeks to find winners across all award categories. Overall, the votes were split 27% investors, 38% fund managers and 35% service providers.

Carey Olsen Guernsey corporate partner Christopher Anderson (pictured) said of the firm’s win: “Private equity work is a mainstay of our legal offering across the group and we’re delighted to see Carey Olsen recognised as the leading law firm working in the fund structuring space by the readers of privateequitywire.

“We continue to work on some of the largest, most innovative and ground-breaking deals in the private equity sector as well as advising fledgling managers on the establishment of first-time funds. This award is both an endorsement of our broad range of expertise and a credit to the hard work and talent of our people.”

At Mourant, partner and global head of the firm’s investment funds practice, Ben Robins, said: “2019 proved another exciting year for the global private equity industry where a dynamic market saw strong deal-making and fund raising exceeding half a trillion dollars for the fourth year in a row.

“Mourant also had a standout year, with our global practice advising 72% of the world’s top 25 private equity firms on many of the largest and most complex transactions and fund raisings in the market.. Our team’s success is testament to the delivery of the best offshore legal advice across complex, international deals and unparalleled knowledge of the sector in all the key global private equity markets.

“We’re honoured to have been named the leading offshore law firm for private equity work, and we’re proud that our fully-integrated global team’s consistent strength and capability has been recognized by industry peers.”
