Carey Olsen is the headline sponsor for Chirpy’s Cricket Club, having supported the club as a coaches’ development sponsor for a number of years.

Chirpy’s Cricket Club has grown significantly since it was established in 2017 by founder James Caunt when, after realising that Jersey lacked opportunities for junior cricket, he set up a small club amongst his son’s friends in his back garden. Now 146 children aged between five and 13 play across 14 classes per week, with an ever-growing waiting list and the club having expanded to include two adult teams.

The sponsorship will support the continued growth of each area of Chirpy’s Cricket Club, from providing all children with the necessary kit and club shirts to sourcing and qualifying new coaches for its Academy programme. The funding also contributes towards running Chirpy’s Development Centre at Les Quennevais School, which works with the club’s Academy players and has enabled Les Quennevais School to relaunch its cricket programme.

James Caunt said: “This is an exciting time of growth for Chirpy’s and, with our classes ever growing in demand, Carey Olsen’s support is invaluable. We want to continue creating opportunities for children of all ages and abilities to take part in our cricket programme and hope that one day we may see players represent our Jersey National Team and win the Jersey Cricket Premier League. With Carey Olsen’s sponsorship we are one step closer to achieving such aspirational goals.”

Carey Olsen partner, Peter German, said: “A number of us at Carey Olsen have a personal connection to Chirpy’s, watching our children progress from absolute beginners and grow into confident young players. It is a fantastic organisation, founded on an ethos of fun and friendship and one which Carey Olsen is only too proud to support.

“The pace at which the club has transformed from a small group of friends to a large community of talented players is truly impressive, and we know that our sponsorship will help the club to give cricketing opportunities to more young islanders.”
